摘要:While interpersonal emotion regulation (IER) plays a crucial role in mental health and social relationships, the neural and behavioral mechanisms underlying gender differences in IER remain poorly understood. This study investigated how gender influences IER effectiveness through movement and neural synchrony. We recruited 52 same-gender dyads (25 male-male, 27 female-female) to participate in an emotion regulation task while their brain activity was recorded using functional near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS) and their movements were captured for motion energy analysis (MEA). During the task, one participant (experiencer) viewed emotioninducing videos while their partner (regulator) attempted to improve their emotional state using either affective engagement or cognitive engagement strategies. Results showed that female dyads achieved better regulatory outcomes, including greater perceived strategy implementation and effectiveness, and exhibited higher levels of both movement and neural synchrony in the left dorsolateral prefrontal cortex compared to male dyads, regardless of strategy type. Movement synchrony analysis revealed that synchronization was consistently led by the experiencer across all conditions. Importantly, in female dyads, both movement and neural synchrony positively correlated with the experiencer's perception of strategy. These findings suggest that gender differences in IER outcomes may be closely related to behavioral and neural alignment, possibly reflecting underlying joint attention mechanisms. This study is the first to investigate emotion regulation through the combined use of fNIRS hyperscanning and MEA in the context of gender differences, providing novel insights into the neural and behavioral bases of gender differences in social-emotional processes.

题名:The Bidirectional Longitudinal Relationships between Self-Compassion, Peer Attachment, and Prosocial Behavior in Chinese Children

摘要:Prior research has highlighted the promoting effects of self-compassion and peer attachment on prosocial behavior. However, it has overlooked the shaping influence of prosocial behavior on these two factors, as well as the underlying mechanisms among the three. Examining the reciprocal links between self-compassion, peer attachment, and prosocial behavior, along with their mediating mechanisms, constitutes the core objective of this investigation, which leverages both a traditional CLPM and a within-person RI-CLPM for analysis. A total of 1037 children with MT1age = 9.65 +/- 0.73 participated in the study, including 427 girls (41.17%) and 610 boys (58.83%). The results indicated that the bidirectional relation among self-compassion, peer attachment, and prosocial behavior in the CLPM, while the RI-CLPM revealed more temporally predictive relationships: early peer attachment positively predicted later prosocial behavior, which in turn significantly predicted subsequent levels of self-compassion and peer attachment. Furthermore, in CLPM, self-compassion influenced prosocial behavior through peer attachment, while secure peer attachment affected prosocial behavior via self-compassion. Simultaneously, self-compassion and secure peer attachment mutually influenced each other through prosocial behavior. The CLPM analysis identified four self-reinforcing cycles. These findings reveal that mutual influence among self-compassion, secure peer attachment, and prosocial behavior drives a virtuous cycle. These findings construct a comprehensive "internal resources-external support-behavioral expression" dynamic cyclical framework, suggesting the need for differentiated intervention strategies at different developmental stages of childhood: early-stage interventions should focus on fostering secure peer attachment relationships to lay the foundation for subsequent development, while later-stage efforts should emphasize prosocial behavior training to shape both internal and external resources, thereby promoting the holistic enhancement of children's social adaptability.

题名:Bullying victimization and bystander behavior in bullying: Examining the mediating roles of social anxiety and social-emotional competence

作者:高若馨;褚晓伟(通讯)

卷期:2025年第30卷第2

摘要:Bullying victimization has been widely recognized as a robust predictor of adverse psychosocial outcomes, yet the relationship between bullying victimization to bystanders' behaviors toward bullying incidents remains poorly understood. Besides, the mediating roles of emotional-cognitive factors such as social anxiety and social-emotional competence in shaping these dynamics have not been systematically examined through a longitudinal lens. The present study investigated the bidirectional relationships between bullying victimization and three types of bystander behaviors (i.e., defending, passive bystanding, and pro-bullying), with a focus on the chain-mediating roles of social anxiety and social-emotional competence. A longitudinal survey was conducted across three waves with six-month intervals, involving 1,022 Chinese adolescents (52.1% female; Mage = 14.69, SDage = 1.15). Results indicated that bullying victimization unidirectionally and longitudinally predicted bystanders' pro-bullying behavior. Social anxiety and social-emotional competence independently mediated the cross-sectional relationship between bullying victimization and bystander behavior in bullying. These findings advance theoretical understanding of the emotional-cognitive mechanisms underlying the dynamics between bullying victimization and bystander behavior, providing valuable insights for developing targeted interventions to break the vicious cycle of their influence.

The Effects of Gender-Specific Parenting Styles in the Intergenerational Transmission of Emotional Regulation Difficulties To Adolescents

卷期:2025年第54卷第11

摘要:Prior research on the intergenerational transmission of emotional regulation difficulties has primarily examined maternal influences on adolescents, with limited attention to paternal contributions and parental dyadic processes. Guided by a family systems perspective, this study examined gender-specific parenting styles' role in the intergenerational transmission of emotional regulation difficulties from parents to adolescents. Participants included 338 Chinese family units, each consisting of an adolescent (M-age = 14.10 years, SD = 0.95; 51.8% female) and their father and mother. Using structural equation modeling and Actor-Partner Interdependence Model analyses, results revealed that paternal (but not maternal) emotion regulation difficulties directly predicted adolescents' difficulties. Parental emotion regulation difficulties also predicted both their own and the spouse's authoritarian parenting, reflecting interparental spillover effects. However, parental difficulties in emotion regulation only have significant actor effects on their own authoritative parenting styles. Maternal authoritarian parenting significantly mediated the association between maternal emotion regulation difficulties and adolescents' difficulties, while paternal authoritative parenting showed a marginal mediating effect in the paternal pathway. These findings broaden understanding of adolescent emotional development by moving beyond a mother-centered framework to highlight parental dyadic interdependence. The identified gender-specific transmission patterns underscore the importance of enhancing fathers' authoritative parenting and supporting mothers in moving away from authoritarian practices in interventions aimed at alleviating adolescents' emotion regulation difficulties
